During breeding season, in urban areas like the University of Michigan north campus, residents are facing trouble with increasing numbers of wild turkeys roaming high pedestrian areas, leading to turkeys causing an increase in safety concerns. Results from surveyed students and staff reported over 58% being negatively impacted by turkeys. Currently, no effective solution exists to ethically control the population. Through contribution from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, action is necessary to minimize interaction between pedestrians and turkeys. The solution must be affordable, durable to withstand nature, responsive, theft-resistant, and must utilize randomized patterns to disperse wild turkeys humanely.
