In medical emergencies, safe blood transfusion depends on reliable storage and transport between blood banks and patient care locations. In the obstetrics and gynecology departments at Komfo Anokye and Korle Bu Teaching Hospitals in Ghana, blood is transported in generic coolers without regulated temperature control, risking its viability. Current alternatives for temperature-controlled blood transportation are prohibitively costly or require reliable electricity, making them inaccessible to resource-limited hospitals. To address this need, this project aims to design a cost-effective, portable device which stores blood at a controlled temperature of 2-6 ℃ for optimally 12 hours per use.
