Lightweight Fuselage for MFly's Autonomous SUAS Aircraft

Abstract

The M-Fly project team has requested the design and fabrication of a fuselage for their 2026 Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) competition aircraft. They will provide the external geometry to match, along with specifications for how the fuselage must integrate with the rest of the airframe. This project emphasizes developing a fuselage that reduces weight and simplifies assembly while maintaining compatibility with last year's avionics layout. Key design considerations include the internal structural layout, the selection of materials, and the design of fuselage joints to balance strength, manufacturability, and ease of integration.
