MRacing – Upright Redesign for Ring-Drive Planetary Gearbox

Abstract

MRacing is transitioning to a new corner architecture that incorporates wider rims and a ring-driven planetary gearbox. These changes necessitate the design of a new upright that integrates the gearbox, braking, cooling, and suspension systems while fitting inside the wheel rim. The primary outcome of this project was a CAD model of the upright that meets structural, thermal, and integration requirements validated through FEA and that can be manufactured by one of MRacing's sponsors. A plastic, 3D-printed prototype was also produced to confirm assembly and integration.
